Talk in L. A. TONIGHT - moral implications of Impeachment

For the past three years I have been involved with a wonderful organization called ICUJP: Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace, a group of people who came together after September 11th to say that religious communities should not be blessing war and violence.  Some who blog here might know the Reverend George Regas from our organization - for those who don't, here's a copy of a sermon he gave at the National Cathedral that upset a few on the religious right.

TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m., ICUJP will be hosting a talk at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles - the question we will be asking is:

Should George Bush and Dick Cheney be Impeached? What are the Moral Implications of Impeachment?

Thank these White House Correspondents for doing their jobs!

These are the guys who really layed into Scotty McMeatball at the White House gaggle today.

I think it would be great if we all called/e-mailed/fax them our thanks for bringing this issue to the fore, and encourage them to keep on asking the hard questions:

"March of the Theocrats" event in Los Angeles this Sunday!

This coming Sunday, June 5th at Westwood United Methodist Church in Los Angeles, I hope all the LA MyDD'ers can come out to participate in a great program called "The March of the Theocrats: Using Religion as an Instrument of Oppression".

Especially in light of recent news about the effectiveness of non-profits aligned with Dr. James Dobson, this program could not have come at a better time:

In only six months of existence, a new affiliate of Focus on the Family was able to raise nearly $9 million for its cause: taking on the politicians and judges whom founder James Dobson blames for taking the country to the brink of moral bankruptcy.

Nonprofit experts say raising that much money so quickly - the equivalent of $50,000 a day - is astounding, more evidence of the goodwill the child psychologist has built among supporters over a quarter-century of preaching conservative values.

Nat. Cathedral sermon on inclusiveness upsets right

A man I have been very honored to know for a few years, Rev. Dr. George Regas, Rector Emeritus of All Saints Church in Pasadena California and convenor of Interfaith Communities United for Justice in Peace in Los Angeles, gave a sermon at the National Cathedral in Washington a couple of weeks ago that was a powerful indictment of the exclusionary/reactionary cult that is getting so much press:

Christianity is often presented in the most exclusionary ways. In today's Gospel, John puts words on Jesus' lips that have led Christians through the centuries to claim an exclusive way to salvation. "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." That is one of the most difficult verses in the Bible to interpret adequately. Those who claim that Christianity is the exclusive way to a saving faith cling tenaciously to this verse...If my reflections on this verse are to have integrity, I must speak as though my close rabbi friends and my Muslim colleagues are sitting right there in a pew in front of me. Those good people in whom I've seen the glory of God.

"Accountability Project" - your thoughts?

I'd like to get your opinions on my take on what "nonviolent action" and "civil disobedience" can mean today.

I was inspired by the action that many of you were involved in around Sinclair Broadcasting. Using a variety of means including contacting advertisers and investment firms that had Sinclair as part of their mutual or pension funds, we were able to bring down Sinclair's stock price by $105 Million dollars in one week.

I've developed some ideas based on your successes - more info below the fold.
